How to become aware of your emotions through observation?

Becoming aware of your emotions through observation is a bit like watching a film in 'speech bubble' mode: you can see all the feelings behind every word and gesture, and better understand what's going on in your head.

Here are some tips on how to be truly aware of your own emotions:

  1. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness is about being aware of your thoughts and emotions in the present moment, without judgment. You can practice mindfulness by concentrating on your breathing, or by taking the time to sit in silence and feel your emotions.
  2. Name your emotions: name your emotions precisely to help you understand them better. For example, instead of saying "I feel bad", say "I feel sad" or "I feel frustrated". Naming your emotions can help you understand and manage them better.
  3. Call in a professional: If you find it difficult to understand your emotions, or if you have very intense emotions that are upsetting you, don't hesitate to ask a mental health professional for help. A therapist can help you better understand your emotions and find ways to manage them in a healthier way.
  4. Take time for yourself: take time for yourself and your emotions. Do something you enjoy, take time to relax or meditate. This will help you to be more aware of your emotions and manage them better.
  5. Do some journaling Journaling: writing in a journal can be an effective way to better understand your emotions. Take the time to write about your emotions and what triggered them. This can help you understand them better and find ways to manage them.
  6. Take care of your physical well-being: your physical well-being can have an impact on your emotions. Exercise regularly, eat healthily and get enough sleep to help you be more aware of your emotions and manage them better.

In summary, to be truly aware of your own emotions, you can practice mindfulness, name your emotions accurately, seek professional help, take time for yourself, journal and take care of your physical well-being. By doing so, you can better understand your emotions and find ways to manage them in healthier ways.

It's important to note that managing emotions is an ongoing process and that it can be difficult to understand and manage your emotions at first. Be patient and don't put too much pressure on yourself. Ask for help if you need it and trust yourself to learn to better understand and manage your emotions over time.
